An award-winning paint your own studio in Ballynahinch Co. Down.
Colours is an award-winning paint your own pottery, canvas painting and foam clay studio in Ballynahinch Co. Down.
At Colours we offer a fun, relaxing and positive atmosphere in our open plan studio where anyone of any age can create their own unique work of art.
In addition, we offer a mobile workshop service to various organisations such as schools, girls brigade, guides, scouts, church groups, retirement groups, residential homes and corporate team building events.
Our first ever experience in a pottery painting studio was on holiday with our then two young boys in 2010. They spent the afternoon painting several figurines and we all painted a large flowerpot which included our hand prints.
I was hooked by the concept from then on. I just love the idea that you could use a piece of pottery as a blank canvas to create something completely unique and a beautifully handmade keepsake.
I have always had a passion for arts and crafts going back to my school days when I studied art and design along with sculpturing, and had always tinkered with craft hobbies throughout my life, fitting them in around a period of illness and being a mum but at the back of my mind I couldn’t forget the thought of, “Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a ceramic studio!”
In the summer of 2018, we decided to take the leap and attended several training courses and found the perfect location for our studio. We nervously opened the studio in November 2018 and waited for the visitors to come.
Our visitors came from far and wide for many reasons. We met lots of new-born babies, capturing those tiny prints to keep forever.
We have hosted many parties of excited children who look at you in amazement when you tell them they can do absolutely anything with their designs, giving the freedom to be creative and expressive.
We have seen so many young, talented painters and grown-ups, some who have forgotten with busy lives, just how artistic they are. We see lots of families, welcoming the chance to sit together without electrical devices and have good, quality time together making their pieces. We also hear repeatedly about our painters feeling the therapeutic benefits of sitting calmly, relaxing and painting.
We still attend as many training sessions as we can, learning about products, new techniques and trends. And the Flowerpot? Well it remains safely on our kitchen windowsill, in pride of place…
